Craft of the week: Cool colorful crayons

Materials:
Broken crayons
Thick paper cups
Candy molds

Directions:

Take all the paper off the crayon pieces you have and put them in a thick heavy paper cup. Put the cup into the microwave for 4 to 6 minutes or until the crayon mixture is completely melted. Pour the mixture- very carefully- into the candy molds you have chosen. Next place the molds into the freezer for 20 minutes or until the crayon mixture is solid. Remove the crayons from the candy molds and start coloring!

Craft of the week: Animal Sponge Puppets

What You’ll Need
soft kitchen sponges
scissors
wiggly eyes
glue
markers
colored paper

Instructions
1. Make 3 cuts into a piece of sponge this way: 2 partial cuts (where you will insert your fingers to make the puppet’s mouth move) and one long cut that goes all the way through the sponge, for the puppet’s mouth.

2. Cut the sponge into a circular shape. Cut ears and other features from other pieces of sponge and glue into place.

3. Glue or draw on wiggly eyes and other features, using markers or pieces of colored paper.

For a fun change, try cutting different shapes such as rectangles, triangles and squares. Also try putting the partial cuts for your fingers in other areas – for example if you have a sponge that is wide enough you can cut finger holes from the bottom up so the puppet will sit on your fingers.

Get creative with what the puppets will wear and use fabric scraps! This is a project you can get done quickly so don’t worry about sewing together a mini-outfit for the puppet – instead cut a piece of fabric and use safety pins to hold in place. By using safety pins you can also change the outfits quickly!

Craft of the week: Spring Handprint Wreath

Materials you will need for this wreath are glue, scissors, and three colors of pastel paint or construction paper.

There are two ways to do this craft. One is to trace the child’s hand onto paper and cut out the prints. The second is to make paint handprints on the paper and cut those out.

Make nine handprints (3 of each color).

Cut out the prints and glue to form a wreath.

You can decorate the wreath further with pictures (like daffodils or tulips).

These can be:

stickers

hand drawn artwork by the children

pictures from coloring books or magazines

Craft of the week: CD Book

CD Book

Supplies Needed-
- Cd wallet/ book
- Images
- Printer and paper
- Scissors
- Cardstock or contact paper

Find a cheap CD case book and turn it into a learning device for your little growing bud. Make some pretend Cd’s for them to put in the cd case.

Print out images or cut some images out of magazines or construction paper. Cut them out and either glue to some cardstock or put contact paper on them. If you have some old cds lying around that you don’t need anymore, you can glue the images to those so that your toddler can play with some real Cd’s. Then have your toddler file them away in his new CD case!
